The Laredo Public Library is collecting gently used paperback books and sending them to American troops deployed overseas.
Many of our troops are serving far from home and living in facilities that offer few of the creature comforts of home. Being able to escape into a good book at the end of the day is a welcome respite. The Laredo Public Library encourages all residents to donate gently used paperbacks to the Library so that Laredo can show its appreciation to its troops for the sacrifices they make every day for this country.
The first shipment of paperback books will be sent with Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion, 141st Infantry; 66 soldiers from Laredo who will be deploying to Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Please be at the Laredo Public Library, located at 1120 E. Calton Road on Friday, March 4, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. as Bravo Companys representatives receive their first shipment of 93 paperback books.
