Highway travel claims more lives than any other work-related activity. However truck drivers outnumber any other occupation involved in highway fatalities, most victims of fatal work-related highway accidents do not operate trucks or other vehicles for a living. Rather, these casualties routinely drive, or ride, to various locations to perform their job. Victims included:
« Nurses caring for the ill in their homes,
« Sales representatives visiting prospective buyers and/or current clients,
« Managers and administrators attending meetings and/or monitoring job sites,
« Protective service workers responding to fires, other emergencies and investigating crimes,
« Farm workers operating tractors on public roadways.
When driving practice safe-driving habits. Here are some Safe driving tips:
« Always wear your seat belt.
« Keep a safe following distance.
« Respect other drivers (use signals, do not cut others off, do not brake suddenly, use appropriate lanes for your speed, etc.).
« Use your mirrors often.
« Always turn to look for blind spots in traffic / Try to stay out of other's blind spots,
« Do not drive while under influence of Drugs or alcohol.
« Respect Speed Limits.
« Avoid distractions while driving (Smoking, Cell Phone, Radio, Computer, Makeup, Readings, etc.).
