Library News for April 2005
NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK IS April 10-16

READING CONTEST
Reading Logs may be picked up from any Laredo Public Library beginning March 21st. A Children’s staff member or librarian will verify the completed Reading Log. For every 5 books read, a coupon will be placed in the pool for the Grand Prize drawing. Grand prizes ($25 gift certificates to B. Dalton) will be awarded for Most Books Read and for Most Books Read Alone. Runners-up (selected by random drawing) will receive $15 gift certificates to B. Dalton.

Programs include: Read to Me, Age 8 and under; Reading On My Own, Age 8 and under; Scavenger Hunt, Ages 9-14

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR, April 11-15
Come shop the best selection of children’s books anywhere! Check out the economically priced hardbacks and paperbacks. Collect one of the limited edition posters that are available ONLY at Book Fairs!

Dia de Los Niños, April 30, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Come for the puppet shows, children’s fun & games, visiting groups from the community, and this year’s special guest!

ARTISTIC FILM SERIES
The Laredo Public Library and the Laredo Center for the Arts will present a series of award-winning films free of charge to the public, age 17 and older, at the Center for the Arts. After the showing of each film, viewers will have an opportunity to engage in a discussion of the film.

2ND ANNUAL LAREDO POETRY FESTIVAL
Saturday, April 23, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
In the Multipurpose Room of the Main Library
Poems will be presented by students from LISD, UISD, private schools, and home schooling, and by adults 18 and older. Winners’ poems will be published; all participants will receive certificates.
