More than 40 runners gathered Sunday morning for the City of Laredo Parks and Recreation Departments annual Jingle Bell 5K Run to support the Rio Grande International Study Center.
The race began at 8:30 a.m. from IBCs El Banquito Plantation, with runners following a route through the Plantation neighborhood before heading out to Del Mar Boulevard and back to the bank.
More than $500 was raised through donations from the runners, as well as a $500 donation from branch manager Rene Arriaga on behalf of IBC. All proceeds will benefit the Rio Grande International Study Center, under the direction of Dr. Jim Earhart. Earhart was on hand to talk about the centers efforts to preserve the Rio Grande and to thank those for participating.
