Transportation Expert Joins Vision 2005 Program
The Vision 2005 Economic Outlook Conference, scheduled for February 24, 2005, will address current issues affecting local industry among them is the topic of transportation infrastructure and current funding levels. The program organizers have invited Ed Mortimer, Executive Director for Americans for Transportation Mobility (ATM), to provide an update on the status of upcoming legislation and funding at the federal level.
Ed Mortimer serves as the Director of the Transportation Infrastructure Department at the United States Chamber of Commerce. At the Chamber, Mortimer is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of the Chambers transportation policy; managing and coordinating the Chambers activities on transportation issues; and representing the Chamber to Administration, Capitol Hill, and industry organizations.
Ed also serves as Executive Director of the Americans for Transportation Mobility- a Chamber-led coalition of more than 500 national, state and local organizations, including business, labor and government officials - to assist government and other stakeholders in building a safe and more efficient transportation system. The coalition has undertaken a multi-year, national campaign highlighting the importance of an efficient national transportation network.
Before joining the Chamber, Mortimer served as Director of Government Relations for the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA). At TIA, an international association representing the third party transportation provider industry, he was responsible for creating and managing the associations government affairs program. He also served as a legislative representative for the American Road & Transportation Builders Association. While at ARTBA, a national association representing the transportation construction industry, he also served as managing director of the Better Roads & Transportation Council of America.
Mortimer started his professional career in Washington at the Congressional Research Service. He received a B.A. in Political Science from The American University.
The Vision Conference is an annual event organized collaboratively by the Laredo Chamber of Commerce, the City of Laredo and Texas A&M International University. All program activities will take place on the Texas A&M International University campus.
